How to add text to a photo
Upload your image and the Text tab opens with sample text at the bottom centre. Replace it with your own words (up to 120 characters on a single line). Use the Size slider to scale it; size is measured as a percentage of the image width, so the text keeps the same proportion whether the photo is small or very large.
Choose a colour from white, near-black, yellow, red and blue, or open the custom colour picker for any other shade. Then place the text with the nine-position grid: top, middle or bottom, each on the left, centre or right. Positions sit a small distance in from the edges, so the text does not touch the border of the frame.
Tips for readable text on images
Contrast matters more than size. Light text works on dark areas such as sky at dusk or a shadowed wall, and dark text works on bright backgrounds. The tool adds a soft drop shadow behind the letters, which helps on busy photos, but placing text over a calm area of the picture still helps most.
Keep captions short. One line of a few words reads well on a phone screen, and long sentences shrink to a size that is hard to read. If you need a lot of text, it usually belongs in the post or message rather than on the image. For a credit line or copyright notice that should stay subtle, the Watermark tab is a better fit because it lets you lower the opacity.
Combine text with other edits
Because this is part of the full editor, you can crop the image to 1:1 or 9:16 first, darken it slightly with the brightness slider so white text stands out, or add a border around the result. The preview is live, and the server renders the final file at full resolution with all edits applied. PNG stays PNG; other formats are saved as JPG.
