How to add a border to a photo
Upload an image and the Border tab opens with a thin white frame already applied. Drag the Width slider to make the border thicker or thinner; width is a percentage of the image width, so the frame looks proportionate on both small and large files. Choose white, near-black, light grey, blue or orange, or use the custom colour picker to match a brand colour.
The border is drawn inside the edges of the image, so the pixel dimensions stay exactly the same. That is useful when a platform requires a fixed size, but it also means a thick border covers the outer part of the picture. If something important is close to the edge, keep the border thin or crop with some breathing room first.
Choosing a border color and width
A thin white border gives a classic print look and separates a photo from a dark background. Black or very dark grey frames suit moody or high-contrast images and look clean on light websites. A light grey edge is a subtle way to stop a white product shot from blending into a white page.
Colour borders work well when they echo a colour already in the photo, such as the blue of a sky or the orange of a jacket. As a rough starting point, a width around 2 to 4 on the slider reads as a neat frame, while larger values look like a deliberate mat or poster edge.
Borders for square posts
To post a picture in a square frame, crop it to 1:1 in the Crop tab and then add the border. You can also add a caption in the Text tab and place it on the bottom edge. Every edit is applied together on the server at full resolution. PNG uploads remain PNG, and other formats download as JPG.
