About metadata tools

Every image file carries more than its pixels. There is the file size that upload forms limit, the pixel dimensions and aspect ratio, a DPI value that only matters for print, a format and MIME type that may not match the file name, and often an ICC color profile that decides how its colors are displayed. Photos from phones and cameras add EXIF data on top: the device, exposure settings, the date and frequently the exact GPS location.

The checkers in this category read all of it in one pass and headline the value you came for, whether that is the size in KB, the width and height, the megapixels, the DPI, the real format or the color profile. The EXIF Viewer focuses on camera, date and location details.

Two tools change what is stored. The EXIF Remover and GPS Metadata Remover clear all metadata at once or only the details you choose, such as location, camera serial numbers, dates and the editing software, and photos always stay upright. The DPI Changer writes a new print resolution without altering the pixels. Files are processed in memory on the server and returned straight away; they are never stored.
