Social media image sizes in this tool
Instagram post 1080 × 1080, Instagram portrait 1080 × 1350, Instagram story 1080 × 1920. Facebook post 1200 × 630 and Facebook cover 820 × 312. X post 1600 × 900 and X header 1500 × 500. LinkedIn post 1200 × 627 and LinkedIn banner 1584 × 396. YouTube thumbnail 1280 × 720. Pinterest pin 1000 × 1500.
These are widely used upload sizes for each placement. Platforms change their layouts from time to time, so check their current guidelines for anything critical, such as a cover image with text near the edges.
How the crop works
Each preset has its own shape. The tool scales your image until it completely covers the preset size, then trims the overflow equally from both sides, keeping the center. Nothing is stretched, and there are no empty bars.
This means the edges of a photo can be cut off when its shape is very different from the preset, for example a wide landscape going into a tall story. Keep the subject near the middle, or crop it yourself first with the Image Cropper for precise framing. The Pixels option is there if you'd rather type custom dimensions.
Getting the best quality from social uploads
Social networks recompress every image you upload. Giving them an image at the exact size they display means they don't also have to resize it, which helps keep it sharp. Start from a photo larger than the preset, because enlarging a small image makes it soft. Keep text and logos away from the edges of covers and banners, which are often partly hidden by profile pictures and buttons on some screens.
