How to change the background color of a photo
Upload an image and the tool opens with the Colour option selected. The server separates the subject from its background using AI, then the preview places it on a solid colour. Choose white, near-black, blue, green, amber or pink, or open the colour picker to enter any shade, such as a brand colour. Download as PNG, JPG or WebP.
The new background fills the whole frame at the original image size. Nothing is cropped, so the subject stays exactly where it was in your photo.
Choosing the right background color
White and very light grey are standard for product listings and give a clean, catalogue look. Darker colours make light subjects stand out and feel more dramatic. A brand colour behind team headshots or product shots helps a set of images look consistent across a website or social profile.
Think about contrast with the subject's edges. A dark-haired person on near-black can lose the outline of their hair, while a white product on white can disappear. Picking a colour with some difference in brightness from the subject also hides small imperfections in the cut-out.
Background colors for official photos
Many passport, visa and ID photos require a plain white or light background. For those, the Passport Photo Maker and ID Photo Maker are a better fit, because they also crop to the required size and output at 300 DPI. Requirements vary by country and can change, so check the issuing authority's current rules.
As with any automatic cut-out, very fine hair, glass and transparent items may not be perfect. A photo with even lighting and a subject that is clearly separated from what is behind it gives the cleanest edge.
